My counseling style is eclectic and based upon first building trust and rapport and meeting my client where they’re at. What does that mean? It means I work with my client to find the route and technique that will best serve them on their current paths, while also working together to identify and meet their individualized treatment goals along the way. I may rely upon CBT, DBT, Play and Art Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems Theory, and Mindfulness Techniques. I have a passion for helping others and have a boundless curiosity about human behavior and relationships, both with ourselves and others.
I started off in this field by interning and then working in a residential treatment facility for children for a total of a year and a half. I also briefly worked in outpatient with children and their families and worked for a year as a school therapist with adolescent males. Prior to my work as a therapist, I worked in preschools.
I received my bachelor’s degree from Point Loma Nazarene University in Child and Adolescent Development, and my Master of Clinical Social Work with an emphasis on Children and Families from Simmons University.
I am keenly interested in ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Post-Partum Depression, PTSD, C-PTSD, and Child and Adolescent Development. I also enjoy studying the concept of Core Wounds, and how they motivate our behaviors through our lifespans.
I grew up in culturally diverse San Diego in a city very close to the Mexican border and have a deep love and appreciation for the Mexican culture as a result. I also enjoy the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest!
One of my future goals is to eventually study psychoanalysis. I grew up with a father who has a master’s degree in psychology, and we would often discuss Freud’s sometimes controversial theories together.
Aside from my educational studies and work experience, I am also a single parent to a young child with ADHD and have much life experience. I have experienced many of life’s ups and downs and can often genuinely empathize with my clients as they experience life’s changes!
