Amy Quigley

Professional Counselor Associate

Working cohesively with youth to foster success from a whole child viewpoint, has been a longtime passion of mine. My expertise stems from understanding child development as it relates to learning. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. I spent a decade in public education as an elementary classroom teacher as my first career. I identified a definitive need to better support the emotional needs of diverse children and families.

I returned to school to earn a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis on children and adolescents from Grand Canyon University. My goal is to provide tools and support for children and families, so that they can flourish in all areas of life. I gained mental health counseling experience in both Arizona and Oregon; working with children, families, groups, and colleagues. I have worked in both the clinical and school settings. I engaged with families involved with the Department of Children’s Services and co-facilitated groups for both preschool and elementary aged children.

My counseling style is child-centered, attachment focused, and relational in nature. This provides support to not only the child(ren), but the familial unit, in order to foster support and mental health well-being. I enjoy employing a variety of play- and art-based approaches, somatic and mindfulness skills, Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, parent-child interactional and relational approaches. My professional goal is to work towards incorporating animal-assisted therapies into my work with the use of a service dog. I would also like to earn certifications within efficacious trauma-related therapies.

The majority of my work has been with children aged four to thirteen but I have also worked with older adolescents and families throughout my career. My areas of clinical interest and experience are in trauma- and stressor-related disorders, anxiety, neurodevelopmental, and depressive disorders. Additional clinical interest to note is in working with pre-, peri-, and postnatal mothers, families, and related stressors and disorders, as I can empathize with the challenges that relate to that stage of life.

I welcome clients of all diverse backgrounds as I enjoy utilizing person- and family-centered approaches. Coming from the southwest region, I have engaged in a lot of work with Hispanic families through my professional career and volunteering experiences. As an adolescent, I did volunteer work in Mexico; helping repair church facilities and building homes. I also engaged in the Big Sister program as a young adult. I have engaged well in working with families with children with developmental disabilities, as well as foster and adoptive families. I am able to thrive in my work with youth with varied personalities, as I modify and adjust between directive and indirective approaches, when appropriate.

I am currently a Professional Counselor Associate with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, working towards independent licensure. I am practicing under the supervision of Desiree A. Dalkiran, LPC#C5705. I look forward to engaging in valuable counseling services with your child and family through my warmth and dedication to mental wellbeing.
